MSiA – GP03 Dendrobuim

While I still own this massive piece of awesomeness, I want to post some of the pics here. This was THE biggest MSiA release to date and can definitely rival some of the big Robot Damashii releases (albeit not in detail nor articulation). Last note I’ll make is that I upgraded his elbow joints to double-hinges for better range of motions.

Robot Spirits – GN-X IV Production Type

Just a quick little overview with a couple “glam” shots. Not a bad figure out there, but Commander type had slightly better accessories. Range of motion isn’t too bad, I’d say it works with the general design perfectly well.

Gundam Wing – Leo – Robot Damashii X MSiA

Couldn’t resist shelling $40 for the new Leo that Bandai rolled out last month for the Robot Damashii line. Gundam Wing being one of my favorite series of all time, the first one I really got into after moving to the states, and that opened up Gunpla and figures for me- any new, especially grunt merchandise is always welcome in my book.

The Mobile Suit in Action Leo, I got way back in 2000 when they were localized here in the states, and haven’t really seen any other incarnation of this classic grunt save maybe garage kits and smaller static figures. Now, after 12 years, Bandai finally released a worthy successor to the lonely old timer, but not without a clever trick up their sleeve- the weapons for the RD Leo are a whole separate set unlike the oldie that came loaded with extra gear. Another detail I noticed was the fact that the head on the RD Leo is an extra new piece over the standard head connector, and my guess is it is because the base figure is a rehash of the RD Tallgeese II limited edition.

Without any further adieu, MSiA on the left and RD on the right.

Sakata Gintoki Figure (Feb. Promo Campaign)

Present from one of my fans, from winter Gintama campaign that was going on here. Typical deal with these- spend 500 yen on a draw ticket, open it up, then choose merchandise from a tier it says. Gin figure is the top tier prize, just like in the 7-11 promo happening right now. Very, very cool!

D-Arts – Medabots – Medabee & Rokusho

Excellent figures with perfect range of motion, features, and accessories.

Custom Robo – Model Kits (Bandai)

Though I only played Custom Robo Arena on the DS, I loved the lil series and simply couldn’t pass up these 5$ kits. Parts are interchangeable and they all come with extra weapon hands. They even have the portable mini-versions just like in the game to boot.

Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner – Jehuty Anubis – Revoltech

Probably my most anticipated buy of the year(after SO many years of waiting)! Gorgeous figure without any flaws (for once, knowing Revoltech line…)

The Generation Gap – Front Mission 3 to Evolved

So after a recent purchase of the new Play Arts Kai Zenith, the series’ iconic mech, I want to write a little generation gap article to reflect upon this series’ evolution as well as the rather surprising merchandise’s footsteps.

I got into these games with Front Mission 3, for the PS1, and immediately noticed that the game had some pretty decent (for the time) figures made by ArtFX. I got a couple, beat the game, all was well. The game itself was your typical militaristic sci-fi turn-based strategy with 2 story paths you could play through (and a heap of hours needed for each one). The figures were pretty solid and not very limited in articulation like quite a few of their brethren.

After making a natural stop at PS2 with Front Mission 4 and even a Nintendo DS with the remake of the first game, the series made its way to PS3 with Front Mission Evolved. Has it finally evolved? Indeed- the new installment was a 3rd-person action game with a much more dynamic and arcady feel than the previous, serious strategy games. This time, Square Enix made a set of updated figures with new articulation, but some of the old feel as well- like weapon pegs in palms of hands, which makes old and new figures’ accessories fully compatible.

While the new game was easily overshadowed by better options in its class, the new figures were quite worthy despite a much heavier price tag.

And finally, some comparison pics as well as couple glam-shots:

New figure definitely looks its part and fits new standards in games- more aggressive, more realistic, more clean-cut. The old guy looks more true to the older graphics and less stress on individual looks.

Creepin On Your Desks – Revoltech Woody

Just got this for Christmas from a friend, and there will be some great pics coming soon. Meme was made of this Woody figure and a rather ridiculous one, so I’ll keep my own fun much more sane, but still out there to keep the spirit of the joke.
